In the past
24 years we offer support to brazilian official entities
IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable
Natural Resources), Civil Police, Environmental Military
Police, Federal Police, Civil Defense, Departments of
Environment, etc. during 24 hours per day rescuing
domestic, exotic and wild animals from apprehensions and
rescues in abuse or environment crimes situations (circus,
cockfight, deforestation, burning, trafficking, ritual,
abandon, fur industry, etc.)
At the
present time we shelter in our headquarters about 230
animals (lions, jaguars, sloths, deer, macaws,
parrots, monkeys, otters, dogs, cats, etc.)
We work
based on permaculture, using the dry treatment of
excrement from big felines (lion and jaguar), turning
them into humus, which returns to the earth as
fertilizer. The treatment of excrement of other animals
is carried out in the biodigester, which turns them into
biogas and energy. We work also with gray water
treatment, bio-construction with green roof, compost,
organic gardening, etc.
We also
conducted a complete environmental education program
which have passed about 25,000 children and teenagers
throughout school system.
Unfortunately, with the quickly growth of Cotia/SP, the
city is surrounding and pushing us, leaving the animals
in vulnerable situations. So, to continue our mission to
save lives, we need as soon as possible, to move to
another location. After a while, we found the perfect
place at the Serra da Mantiqueira to accommodate
the Rancho dos Gnomos and give animals a home in the
middle of nature. Now, we need your support to get the
necessary resource to purchase a new land!
Rancho dos Gnomos is localized in a
area 33.783m² (40.404yr²) in the city of Cotia/SP
(Brasil),
where we can shelter animals from different species.
However, with the numerous requests for receiving
animals in risky situations, we exceed our physical
space currently available.
We are in a
new phase. In the past 24 years of operation, Rancho dos
Gnomos followed with apprehension the growth of the city
Cotia/SP. Today, the city is surrounding and pushing us.
Our headquarters, first located in a peaceful rural are,
now belongs to a urban perimeter of Grand São Paulo,
with all of its arising peculiarities, including the
subway implementation project for a population that
exceeds 230,000 inhabitants. So, to continue our mission
to save lives, we need as soon as possible, to move to
another location. It’s time to move out. After a while,
we found the perfect place at the
Gonçalves/MG to accommodate the Rancho dos
Gnomos and give animals a home in the middle of nature.
Why the city of Gonçalves/MG?
For being close but far enough away from
the buzz of São Paulo: are 204 km (about 126 mile) by
the Ayrton Senna/Carvalho Pinto Roads with good road
access, located at Serra da Mantiqueira, with plenthy of
nature and just over 4.000 inhabitants, with peaks with
peaks that reach 2100m of high (about 6889ft).
At Gonçalves, we found a perfect place
for an Ecological Sanctuary. It’s a property with 18
hectares, source of drinking water, housing
infrastructure, all the documentation in order and 10 km
(6 miles) from downtown.
We are living an unique moment,
confidents that we are taking an appropriate decision
and well-considered. We want to continue our work and
mission of life. We have an enormous gratitude for Cotia
/ SP, but you must go forward.
We need to make the
purchase of the new property, so we count on all our
friends and partners!
This courageous initiative involves
putting together a large number of animal lovers in the biggest crowdfunding campaign ever realized in
Brazil, with the support of NPO Ampara Animal,
Institute Luisa Mell and Group Porta dos
Fundos.
